SOUTH DAKOTA BOYS STATE SCHOLARSHIP
South Dakota Boys State is proud to announce a new scholarship program that will award a South Dakota Boys State participant a $1,000 scholarship to a four year post-secondary school of their choice The scholarship is for the 2018-2019 academic year and is not renewable.
The primary criteria for this scholarship is that the recipient be accepted to South Dakota Boys State and be an active participant in the week’s activities.
The scholarship will be awarded to a 2018 Boys Stater at the Awards Ceremony at the close of the 2018 Session in Aberdeen on the Northern State University Campus.
The scholarships are being sponsored by Student Loan Finance Corporation’s iHELP program. iHELP will be sponsoring $1,000 scholarships for both South Dakota Boys State and Girls State.

Worldwide electronics leader Samsung endowed a scholarship fund of $5 million to be administered by The American Legion in 1996. Meant to show appreciation for U.S. veterans who came to Korea’s aid during its struggle against communist forces in the Korean War, the Samsung American Legion Scholarship Program established a series of scholarships derived from interest and other income from the principal amount.

In 2019, 10 $10,000 scholarships, 10 $5,000 scholarships and 78 $1,250 scholarships were awarded. To date, the Samsung American Legion Scholarship has awarded more than $5.5 million to nearly 2,069 applicants.
